Lupine series on Netflix. Boring novelty. I have mixed feelings about this show. The crush I had during the first season turned into irritation and boredom. Why?
Lupine series – the first season with a grain of salt
I’ve always liked hint movies Agahty Christi or looking at the other side of the English Channel, series or movies ala Arsen Lupine. Light approach; murder and a mystery who did it. Deduction and solution. Criminal riddles but in the old edition. There is magic in it and I always catch on to it.
This is also the case with the series from Netflix, i.e. Lupine from 2021. We have a amusing main character (in the sense of playfulness), a criminal riddle that extends over generations (main plot) and minor mischief (i.e. small thieving actions as a side supplement). Due to his damaged childhood, the main character suffered a blemish and stopped developing at the stage of a child (hence his childish approach to reality). Reminded of this (or rather instills us to understand it) is often interwoven flashback from his teenage years.
I am able to buy this naivety, childishness, and a certain awkwardness. It also makes me able to swallow these stupid things, those unnecessary and irrational moves that would be more compatible with decisions in movies where Louis de Funes played than, after all, a crime series. The first season is so short that my winked eye did not twitch and I wanted to watch the second edition
Lupine series – the second season reveals imperfections
Something I forgave in season one that I understood and accepted began to tire, irritate and bore me in season two. The number of stupid things, the number of flashbacks overwhelmed me. I don’t understand these flashbacks because the viewer has already made up his mind in season one. Why recall something you already know? This is greatly unnecessary and disrupts the viewing of the series. In addition, it makes me feel that the creators did not know which direction to go. Yet the answer is simple. The main character is an adult character. Of course, you can make a series about the adventures of its childish version, but it will be a separate and coherent film existence.
As for nonsense, I am irritated not so much by the nonsense of the main character but the surroundings. Season 1 is all about champion redraws, and our focus is on Lupine. In the second season, others play a greater role, and we pay more attention to others. It turns out that probably everyone stopped in their development at the stage of childhood, and by adding these flashbacks, we simply have the roles of children played by adults. I just don’t like it anymore.
Looking from another angle, I have an overwhelming feeling that due to these shortcomings, the main thread goes on much longer than it should. I don’t feel that the plot to punish the main anti-hero was going on long enough because it took time to pamper and close the trap. I just feel like something that could have finished in 10 minutes has been stretched to many hours. So forcefully, so unnecessarily, so boring.
Lupine series – acting game
Here my assessment results from my observations described earlier. More than correct I can not judge. I also correctly assess the musical and graphic background. It’s okay but no fireworks. I miss some more archaeological mystery and charm. Not in a literal sense, but in a sense. This is what I would expect from a series about Arsen Luipin in a modern version.
Lupine series – want to watch again in 2 years
I don’t have the smallest.
Serial Lupine – final evaluation
Series (one of many), which ended in season 1 for me. Unfortunately

Explanation of ratings:
At the outset, I warn you that not every movie will have all the available ratings. There are simply fundamental assessments (the one that will always be), e.g. an assessment for a category. There are also ratings such as „willingness to watch the next episode”, which applies to series, so it is difficult to demand that it has its raison d’être with the rated full-length film.
- Category: rating the movie in its main category
- Main plot: assessment of the main story told / Side plots: e.g. flashbacks, side stories of characters
- Image, Music and Special Effects: These can be historical costumes or life on another planet
- Wanting to watch an episode: immediately after the previous one
- Willingness to come back in 2 years: would I like to see again someday / was it a pleasure to watch again
- Overall Impression: Without going into detail the overall reception.
