The da Vinci Code movie. Defense against critics. Why such a subtitle? It seems to me that a wave of copied, one opinion of a man who did not like this film passed through the Internet, and that this man had an idea of himself (and horrifyingly others too) that he was a great critic. So I am an amateur, I decided to stand up for this good movie.
The Da Vinci Code movie – fast-paced action?
One of the charges relates to the lack of action in this film. Well, it’s hard to expect non-stop action from a movie that is more like an intellectual castle in the style of Arsen Lupine (here I recommend my review of the Lupine series) than Mission Impossible. Considering who the main character was, I think the action level is just right. More of this action (at the expense of castling) and the movie would simply be a false image.
The movie The Da Vinci Code – a wooden acting game?
This argument literally amused me. In particular, in the context of this term next to the name of Tom Hanks (the lead actor in the movie The Da Vinci Code). He played brilliantly. I’ve read Dan Brawn’s books and it’s a perfect representation of the character created by him writer. As for the rest of the game actors – I have nothing to complain about. Again, I can only praise. As for the recognition that the only light in this acting mix was McKellen. Well, I will not agree. He did not break above the state. He played what he was about to play. Probably the very subjective sympathy of the critics presents such a distorted image to the readers of their reviews.
That it was the appearance of the character played by McKellen in the film that aroused the first wave of sympathy in the viewer? I can only ask for the blindfolds to be removed and not to speak on behalf of all viewers. I am writing my review about my feelings. And I will say maliciously that I at least watched the movie. Not once. And I have read a book more than once.
The Da Vinci Code movie – not enough magic puzzles?
Again, let me disagree. As for the time it was given, the film managed to put so much an aura of mystery going back to the old centuries that I do not have a bit of a dissatisfaction.
The da Vinci Code movie – special effects, image, music
There is an objection that all the money went into creating great scenes from the olden ages. That those „paltry” 4 minutes had castrated the film. No! Again no and not again. The whole movie is dressed in beautiful scenes, images, effects and sounds. Nowhere did I feel there was a little more or a little less. Again, I urge you to watch the movie!
The Da Vinci Code film – an appeal to critics
Or, in fact, to movie portals. You would be ashamed to put on your website reviews from critics like: Critic X, rating 1 star. justification: ZERO sentences, words, characters. Shame! Next case. When there is a longer review, I have the impression that a person who has not seen the film is writing. Pleas without specific references. Pouring water for the amount of text made. It’s also a shame.
The Da Vinci Code movie – what’s lame?
The film is highly rated for me, but I am aware of the imperfections. There are two main ones. The first is time, but this is no explanation because every movie in the cinema version is cut in such a way. And a good director knows how to squeeze everything in this limited time. It was not entirely possible here to fry that steak filmmaking. Why?
We have too many good actors. It causes a superstate. This causes an attempt to give each of them the necessary minimum screen time. That the „investment” would pay for itself. There is pressure from the producers. There is pressure from the stars. In the movie The Da Vinci Code, I had the impression that the slider „for whom how much” was selected as best as possible. No one could have been given less. But there was not enough time for „giving more”.
Nevertheless, it was possible to avoid the shock that I had the opportunity to feel while watching movie Suicide Squad. There, this „problem” was not dealt with completely. So I appreciate the efforts of Ron Howard (director).
From this original sin comes the second defect. That it may seem to some that a certain character is insufficient and undefined. It just doesn’t have enough screen time. That he is only an extra. Nevertheless, you also have to look at the overall picture. For the work in its entirety. A good work made of not-so-good elements. Overall, the film defends itself in my opinion.
It’s also a good movie to show that sometimes less is more. This is a good film to show that balance is important and if you keep it, we have coherence that the viewer will swallow. It’s like a vacation. Travel to touristic places and eating dishes that we have not heard of before. Does anyone analyze every speck? If the overall dish is good, then no. And this movie is good.
The Da Vinci Code movie – a desire to watch again in 2 years
Guilty pleasure. That’s a good word for my „want to watch it again”. However, it results from one thing. The movie is „tortured” too often in various stations. So I always watch, but it is too often for me to feel simply pleasure.
The da Vinci Code film – final evaluation
I recommend. It’s better than a book. There is magic in it.
reTraceX evaluates: I recommend
Explanation of ratings:
At the outset, I warn you that not every movie will have all the available ratings. There are simply fundamental assessments (the one that will always be), e.g. an assessment for a category. There are also ratings such as „willingness to watch the next episode”, which applies to series, so it is difficult to demand that it has its raison d’être with the rated full-length film.
- Category: rating the movie in its main category
- Main plot: assessment of the main story told / Side plots: e.g. flashbacks, side stories of characters
- Image, Music and Special Effects: These can be historical costumes or life on another planet
- Wanting to watch an episode: immediately after the previous one
- Willingness to come back in 2 years: would I like to see again someday / was it a pleasure to watch again
- Overall Impression: Without going into detail the overall reception.
